Hi from the Marshall Islands! I sit on the National HIV Committee here and we're in the midst of our strategic planning workshop. HIV is still relatively new here (8 current cases) and there are no HIV+ people who have publicly disclosed their status. We've been talking a lot about stigma and discrimination and the need for a vocal 'champion' to speak up for the rights of people living with HIV. Since we don't have a local advocate yet, I've shared your blog with the rest of the committee in hopes that your story will help them better understand the complexities of this issue and the importance of living by example to reduce stigma. A few people have already read it and started talking about it, so thank you for giving a voice to those still afraid to speak up.
